Singer-songwriter Katy Perry has been tipped as the next big thing after topping the US charts.

The 23-year-old's latest release "I Kissed a Girl" is one of the smash hits of the summer.

Like Perry's previous single "Ur So Gay", the track has provoked controversy with its provocative lyrics.

And an online war of words over claims Perry has replaced Brit Lily Allen as the golden girl at their record label Capitol has added to the column inches.
